I am incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to be working with the Best Friends method at Bridgepointe at Ashgrove Woods. My great-grandmother suffered from Alzheimer's, and though I never met her, I've heard countless stories of her interesting behaviors and how the disease affected her.
As silly as it may sound, I really became fascinated with Alzheimer's and dementia after I began watching the popular ABC show, Grey's Anatomy. I love interacting with the guests and residents, hearing their stories, sharing moments of joy and hardship with them, and learning more about the way dementia affects individuals.
I have a small photography business and love capturing important moments in people's lives so that I can help to tell their stories. I wish so badly that I could take pictures of the guests at Best Friends so I could share them with the world, but sadly, I am not allowed. I love people and the uniqueness of everyone's individual journey through life, and I love making other people smile. If I were funny enough, I would become a comedian, but telling puns and knock-knock jokes will have to suffice.
I desire to have been humbled by this experience, whenever I stop volunteering, and to have established relationships with the guests, as well as the faculty, in hopes of falling in love with the organization and creating a place where I feel special and can make others feel special.
