Emily

Hello, all!  My name is Emily Willis, and I am a Freshman at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY.  Home, however, is in Pikeville on the eastern side of the state.  I have declared two majors thus far - Psychology and Neuroscience (two very different majors that are keeping me very busy).

As a student enrolled in CIS 112 (a communications class), I am also required to be involved in a service learning project.  My top pick was the Best Friends Day Center.  This organization provides care for those who suffer from dementia and other irreversible memory loss conditions.  I have always had a soft spot for those who suffer dementia, so this organization has me very excited!  It is my hope that I can, as one of the participants of the program told me, "help [them] remember" their lives.

A few facts about me include my passion for music, animals, God, and the elderly.  I have been playing the piano and clarinet for 14 years and 8 years respectively, and I hope to continue to do so for the rest of my life.  I would adopt every animal in the local shelter if I could, however I already have a cat and 2 dogs at home (Bucky, Leo, and Buddy).  Back home I am very involved in my church, and on campus I am involved in 2 ministers.  My passion for the elderly is what ultimately led me to choose the Best Friends Day Center as my service learning organization.
